Sue Bradford of AAAP to appear in court
tomorrow
Four Auckland Action Against Poverty activists, including Sue Bradford, will appear in court tomorrow pleading not guilty on charges of willful trespass.
“These activists were arrested after locking on to the Ministry of Social Development regional office in September last year in protest of the second wave of welfare reforms”, says Auckland Action Against Poverty spokesperson Sarah Thompson. “Those reforms passed into law last week.”
Sue Bradford, one of those arrested, says "I took part in the occupation of the MSD regional office because some of us have to start demonstrating as clearly and strongly as we can that the consequences of National's welfare reforms are far more harmful than most people understand.”
“These reforms will see ordinary New Zealanders sanctioned, work tested, drug tested and work ability assessed,” says Ms Thompson.
“Auckland Action Against Poverty will continue to stand up, speak out and fight back on current and proposed draconian welfare reform.”
The four will be appearing on Tuesday the 16th of April at 9.30am at the Auckland District Court.
