Kapiti comment on expressway
The Environmental Protection Authority today released the Independent Board of Inquiry’s final decision and report on the NZTA’s application for the MacKays Crossing to Peka Peka Expressway project.
The following is comment from Kapiti Mayor Jenny Rowan:
“The bottom line is, we now have certainty. We can now expect the project to proceed around the middle of the year. The reason the expressway is being built is to ease congestion. This will add to our economic development along the coast. An important issue now is to keep residents informed of progress.”
Mayor Rowan said people now had 15 working days to lodge appeals with the High Court. Appeals could only be on points of law. Council would not be lodging an appeal, she said.
