Fonterra Welcomes Government's 'Freshwater Reform 2013 & Beyond'
Fonterra welcomes the opportunity to discuss the Government’s ‘Freshwater Reform 2013 and Beyond' proposals, which were released
today.
Todd Muller, Fonterra’s co-operative affairs director said: “Freshwater is one of New Zealand’s greatest natural assets and we
support efforts to get councils, communities, iwi and water users to work together, coming up with solutions for better
management of our waterways.”
Fonterra will be participating in the Government’s consultation process, which starts with a series of meetings with
communities across the country this month.
“Our environment is important to all New Zealanders and we want to participate in setting a legislative and regulatory
framework that will achieve positive outcomes,” said Mr Muller.
“Fonterra's efforts go beyond looking at the rules and regulations,” he said. “We continue to work with farmers as they
make significant investments to improve water quality and water management practices on their farms. This week we also
announced a new initiative with the Department of Conservation for an investment of $20 million towards improving the
natural habitats of some key waterways around New Zealand."
