Hearings to be held for insecticide reassessment
Hearings will be held in Wellington and Auckland on an application to reassess a group of substances used in insecticides in New Zealand.
The application, made by the Environmental Protection Authority, is to reassess a group of organophosphate and carbamate-based active ingredients, or formulations containing these ingredients, that are used to protect plants from insects.
The hearing in Wellington will start at 10.00am on Monday 4 March 2013 in Hearing room 5.01, the Environment Court, 49 Ballance Street, Wellington. The Auckland hearing will start at 9.30am on Thursday 7 March 2013 in the Richard Pearce room, Holiday Inn Auckland Airport, 2 Ascot Road, Mangere, Auckland.
Full details of the hearings are available on the EPA’s website here and the full application, supporting documents and submissions can be viewed here.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the hearing, but only those who have made a submission on the application can address the hearing.
A decision on the reassessment will be made by an expert Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) decision-making committee, which will consider the application, public submissions and any other evidence presented to it during the consultation process, including during the hearings.
