Disappoinment at views of Richard Prosser.
The Federation of Multicultural Councils is very disappointed that the views of MP Richard Prosser still exist in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is even more disappointing that these views were made by a Member of Parliament.
This generalisation or stereotyping is totally unacceptable to all New Zealanders and I have received many emails from Federation members this morning expressing their concerns.
Not only it is in contravention of the Race Relation legislation, but is contrary to provisions of Human Rights Act and Geneva Convention.
It is pleasing that Mr Prosser has finally apologised, hopefully it is genuine and not just because of public pressure. I would be happy to discuss Mr Prosser’s views with him in the hope that he will understand why people are so outraged about his comments.
It is disheartening to think that these views are still current in New Zealand, this emphasises the need for the Race Relations Commissioner to continue.
