Young Labour Concludes Community Service Tour

The Young Labour Clarion Tour finished on Friday with Young Labour volunteers helping to paint and build a house in Mana. Over the past week more than 25 Young Labour members have collectively contributed 150 plus hours of voluntary community service.

The 2013 Clarion Tour, which was comprised of 17-26 year olds from across the country, was third ever Clarion Tour organised by Young Labour. A van full of volunteers travelled more than 1,400km spending two days in Auckland and one day in Hamilton, Rotorua, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, and Mana. Activities included gardening, house building, historical building restoration, and helping out at a holiday programme.

"We have received really great feedback over the last week and met some amazing people working on inspiring projects in communities all over the country," said Clarion Tour participant Andreas Triandafilidis. "I joined for the whole tour and was the only driver so am really exhausted after it all, but it has been more than worth it, I have had a blast and the gained some invaluable experiences!"

Luke Hiscox, who joined in Auckland and left in Palmerston North has also found the experience incredibly rewarding. "This tour has been a perfect way to connect with community leaders and groups and share and act on our values of social justice and sustainability"

It is unknown when the next Clarion Tour will be held but participants of this year's tour are already expressing an interest in future tours and sharing their very positive experiences with friends and family.

"We have put our blog posts and photos up at Clariontour.co.nz", said young Labour President Shayne Misselbrook, "and this is by no means the end of our efforts. A number of our local branches will be having an ongoing relationship with local community groups we helped and will be volunteering for them again."
