Young Labour Pacific Rep expresses love and support for Samoa

The aftermath of Cyclone Evan has left a pathway of destruction along with three suspected deaths, leaving the Samoan community mourning for loved ones, lost possessions and homes.

Young Labour’s Pacific Island Representative, Kieran Meredith, who is of Samoan descent has expressed his love, support and blessings for the people of Samoa at this time where the community has come together as one.

“On behalf of the Young Pacific branch of the Labour Party, I offer our warmest and utmost sincere love, support and blessings to all our families in Samoa.” Says Meredith.

It was just over three years ago, in September of 2009 that Samoa was struck by first an earthquake then a Tsunami which took the lives of many. Three years later, Samoa are once again left with damage to buildings and scenery that of which makes Samoa so unique.

“What particularly strikes a chord for me is that, family homes have been damaged and lost including the homes of many of my own family. These family homes carry childhood and generational memories and stories. They were irreplaceable.”

“I am hopeful that Samoa, as the staunch community and culture that we are, will get through this as one. Our ability to persevere through the struggles and challenges of the 2009 Tsunami is an encouraging testament to the strong will that our people have. We mustn’t lose hope.”

Meredith says, “Without a doubt, this will be one of the most difficult times for such a small but courageous nation. Let it not however, disrupt our alofa, fa’aaloalo and agaga. Our love, reciprocity and spirituality.

“Our prayers are with you all and the Labour Party are with you every step of the way as we together, begin the road to recovery. You will be not alone in your efforts.”
