Tamaki Housing Group float banned from Glen Innes Xmas parade.

The Tamaki Housing Group has been told by Glen Innes Business Association representative Gary Holmes that our float is not welcome in the annual Xmas march through Glen Innes tomorrow.

“We had planned a colourful float which carried a Xmas message of hope to families in GI that by working together we can all defeat the government’s plans to destroy our community” says spokesperson Yvonne Dainty.

“It will be a grim Xmas for many families with the threat of eviction hanging over their heads. We wanted to bring them some Xmas hope and cheer.”

Mr Holmes has told us he won’t let any protestors take part in the march because it’s a cultural carnival. We explained we were a multicultural group but he rejected us. He also said our application was late but we sent an email two weeks ago and were told by staff it would be fine for us to take part.

We are angry he waited till the day before to tell us he didn’t want us.

“It’s a bad day for Glen Innes when businesses dictate to the community what is acceptable.”

The Business Association is doing this because their members want more profits from the redevelopment. They are acting against the community.
