Statement From Head Of State Services – Pike River Royal Commission Report
Head of State Services, Iain Rennie, today announced that he will support the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE) Chief Executive and his team to help restore public and Ministerial confidence in the government’s health and safety responsibilities.
Following the release of the report from the Royal Commission on the Pike River Coal Mine Tragedy Mr Rennie has offered MBIE Chief Executive David Smol any departmental assistance and resources that can be provided across the Public Service.
“The Report conveys very serious findings and I can assure the families that the public service takes these, and what we now need to do, very seriously,” Mr Rennie said.
“In addition to my ongoing sympathy for the families, I was moved by the graciousness in which they received the Royal Commission report. As public servants we must take these hard lessons from the Pike River report and act accordingly and quickly to restore confidence by doing all we can to prevent such a tragedy happening again,” Mr Rennie said.
