National Day of Action Against Welfare Reforms 5th October

PRESS RELEASE National Day of Action Against Welfare Reforms 5th October

Demonstrations are taking place in Dunedin, Christchurch, Nelson, Wellington, Tauranga, Kaikohe, Auckland and Hawkes Bay for the National Day of Action Against Welfare Reforms Tomorrow Friday Oct 5.

Day of Acton Spokesperson Joanna Wildish says 'The claims that these welfare reforms will only effect a small number of beneficiaries are untrue. These reforms are a punitive and vicious attack on all working class people and they will only make the most vulnerable families even more so. The National party is creating more inequity and greater stigma for all people and families needing income support. Many single parents have already received letters outlining their requirements under the Welfare Reform bill, while Paula Benett is telling us that it is only those 'most vulnerable families who who need to meet new requirements' we are all being targeted.
