National Bank: No job losses must mean no job losses

National Bank: No job losses must mean no job losses

Following confirmation that ANZ will no longer operate the National Bank, the bank workers’ union says that the company must make good on its assurances that jobs and services won’t be cut as a result of the decision.

ANZ today made public the worst-kept secret in the finance industry, that the National Bank will no longer operate.

The ANZ and National banks are doing very well off their Kiwi customers, and they need to know that both customers and staff will be watching these changes very closely, FIRST Union Finance Secretary Andrew Casidy said.

“The bank’s plans for the change indicate they are well aware that no financial case can be made for the cutting of a single job as a result of this process,” he said.

“In the past, this bank promised no jobs would be lost as a result of offshoring jobs to India. Instead, they cut jobs anyway. This time they must deliver on their commitments.”

“Customers have been kept in the dark for too long about these plans as have the bank’s own staff.”

“For the closure of the National Bank to proceed without significant damage to the bank’s reputation, the ANZ have to lift their game and start being more open about how the change will proceed,” Andrew Casidy said.
