Fairfax Media Launches School Report

Fairfax Media Launches School Report

Today (22 September) Fairfax Media launched the School Report, a comprehensive print and digital project on the first year of national standards. It can be found at Stuff here: stuff.co.nz/schoolreport and in our Saturday and Sunday papers around the country.

“Our reporters have fought very hard to bring this project to life, following an OIA request originally declined by both the Ministry of Education and individual schools. Despite resistance from many in the education sector, we know parents want access to National Standards data in order to make the best possible decisions for their children. We're very proud to be able to provide this information to our readers in a useful format,” says Fairfax Media Group Digital Editor Sinead Boucher.

Fairfax Media's journalists have collected data for more than 1000 primary and intermediate schools, so parents can search and compare the data by location or school.

The data comparison is supported by rich reporting from Fairfax Media's team around the country. The reporting analyses the data and our reporters have gone into schools around the country to see what is happening in our classrooms.

We used IPSOS to review our methodology, interviewed the minister and key figures on both sides of the debate.

In addition, we're letting teachers tell their own story, by using our recently launched Stuff Nation functionality to get teachers to take an assignment telling NZ why they teach.
