Waikato leaders urged to sign asset sales petition
Mighty River People's Power have an awesome way for Waikato iwi to lead the way in the asset sales fight - by signing the anti-asset sales petition.
The group is calling on prominent Waikato Māori to sign the petition against asset sales at the hui at Turangawaewae on Thursday, including:
- Tom Roa
- Tuku Morgan
- Nanaia Mahuta
- Parekawhia McClean etc.
'The motu is coming to Turangawaewae to unite against asset sales,' says group member Alvina Edwards. 'What better way to signal support than by signing the petition?'
Mighty River People's Power wants to facilitate a public signing, and envisions Waikato iwi members signing on a table in front of Thursday's hui.
'We will bring hundreds of copies of the petition for iwi to sign from across the country,' says Ms Edwards. 'My kids are Waikato, and I'd like to see their iwi reps act like role models. We really need them to sign the petition for our kid's sake'
'Come on Waikato, lead the way and help us fight the dam asset sales!'
