Auckland mourns fallen soldiers

Mayor Len Brown says the thoughts of Aucklanders are with the families of the three soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

Private Richard Harris of Pukekohe, Lance Corporal Jacinda Baker of Christchurch and Corporal Luke Tamatea of Kawerau were killed when their vehicle was hit by a bomb in Bamiyan.

“On behalf of Auckland and all its citizens I convey my deepest sympathies to their families – may their friends, family and community rally around them and bring support and kindness,” says the Mayor. “Two such tragedies in the space of weeks are horrifying and my thoughts go out to all those brave soldiers serving in Bamiyan province.”
