Concern for reduction in Rape Crisis Service in Wellington
A reduction in services by Wellington Rape Crisis is a serious loss for Wellington women who need to access this important service, Relationships Aotearoa Area Manager Roger Boulcott says.
“Rape Crisis is a valued partner within the Wellington NGO sector providing important crisis support for women survivors of rape and sexual abuse and their support people.”
Wellington Rape Crisis yesterday announced it will shut its doors one day a week because of a lack of funding.
“And yet demand for their services has doubled in the past year,” says Mr Boulcott.
“Rape Crisis has helped Wellington women for the past 35 years. It would be a huge loss if on-going financial issues were to force it to close down completely,” he says.
Rape Crisis and Relationships Aotearoa are both members of the Te Rito Wellington Family Violence Network which is currently running a city-wide campaign against family violence.
