In support of LegaliseLove and LUSH, Young Labour is encouraging people to make room in their diary today for a cheeky pash in support of marriage equality at their local LUSH store. Rainbow Representative Sam Thompson and other Young Labour members around the country will be joining a 'Kiss and Tell' protest at 1:00pm, before helping gather signatures for a petition in support of Young Labour's stance to establish marriage equality and amend the Adoption Act to include same sex couples.
"Young Labour earlier this year decided that achieving marriage equality for all New Zealanders is our number one priority", Young Labour's Rainbow Representative Sam Thompson was quoted as saying. "This is not just an issue for LGBT youth, this is a human rights issue and a generational one. If our representatives in Wellington really value equality and a fair go, they'll make a commitment to expand the right to marry to everyone who has a partner they love and want to spend their life with."
Ms Thompson echoed calls by both LUSH and LegaliseLove for the New Zealand government to take the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Bill or the Marriage (Equality) Amendment Bill out of the member’s ballot and through the parliamentary process.
"LegaliseLove is such a fantastic campaign. Young Labour is proud to support both them and LUSH in calling for marriage equality, and I personally can't wait to take part in the Kiss and Tell. Better make room in your diary for a cheeky pash!"
