Budget ignores the elephant in the room
The Income Defence Group says the 2012 National Government budget ignores the elephant in the room.
"Examining and weeding old ideas is the priority," says IDG spokesman Lind Milnes. "Committees are famous for waste, and
Government is just another committee."
The IDG wants individual incomes protected. This includes incomes of Superannuitants, who have contributed over their
lifetimes of working and family effort.
The IDG says the second big need is training and education, for a strong country tomorrow.
It favours cuts to the rest of government spending, except for the essentials like Police and Foreign Relations.
The group believes the elephant needs labelling with a name-tag and ushering out.
"First we have to stick a label on the elephant, so people start to notice its presence," they say. "Then start widening
the doors to get it out of there."
The group gives the Budget eight out of ten. "More money for education is good. Not attacking superannuation is good.
But we have to go further," they say.
