Voting opens and hui begin for Ngati Ranginui
Voting has opened for the descendants of Ngati Ranginui in what will be one of the biggest decisions to face the Tauranga-based tribe.
So far, or over a period of 10 days, 403 new iwi members have registered and Te Roopu Whakamana o Ngati Ranginui, which has been leading the iwi’s Treaty negotiations, is calling for more.
Iwi members must be registered before 26 May at 5pm to be eligible to vote on four resolutions that will be part of an agreement to settle their historical Treaty of Waitangi claims with the Crown:
Yes/Āe to approve the Deed of Settlement (as presented in the Ratification Information Booklet).
Yes/Āe to approve the Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Ranginui Settlement Trust as the Post Settlement Governance Entity with the Trust Deed (as presented in the Ratification Information Booklet).
Yes/Āe to approve Antoine Coffin (Independent Chairperson), Shadrach Rolleston, Caine Taiapa, Kimiora Rawiri, Te Ruruanga Te Keeti, Nepia Bryan, Te Pio Kawe, Lance Waaka and Rob Urwin as the trustees of the Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Ranginui Settlement Trust signing the Deed of Settlement on behalf of Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Ranginui.
Yes/Āe to approve the Lead Negotiator (Willie Te Aho) and the Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Ranginui Settlement Trust completing the Tauranga Moana Iwi Collective Deed of Settlement within the parameters as presented in the Ratification Information Booklet.
Registered iwi members will have three options to cast a vote – by post, online or at any one of the following consultation hui that Te Roopu will be holding:

• Sat 21 April, 4pm @ Hamilton Airport Motor Inn, Airport Rd, Hamilton
• Sun 22 April, 9am @ Tamaki Novotel, Ray Emery Drive, Auckland Airport
• Sun 22 April, 4pm @ Brentwood Hotel, 16 Kemp St, Kilbirnie, Wellington
• Mon 23 April, 6pm @ Sudima Hotel, 550 Memorial Ave, Christchurch Airport
• Sat 28 April, 6pm @ Cnr of Bourke Rd & O’Riordan St, Holiday Inn, Sydney Airport
• Sun 29 April, 6pm @ Hotel Novotel Brisbane Airport, 6-8 The Circuit, Brisbane
• Saturday 5 May, 10am @ at Tainui Novotel, 7 Alma Street, Hamilton
• Saturday 5 May, 4pm @ Tamaki Novotel, Ray Emery Drive, Auckland International Airport
• Sunday 6 May, 10am @ Hangarau Marae, Bethlehem Road, Tauranga
Iwi members can register, and vote, online at www.ranginuiraupatu.maori.nz or call 0800 4 RANGINUI to be posted the registration form. Those who register and vote will go in the draw to win the latest iPad.
