Locked out meat workers launch '0900 LOCK OUT' tomorrow
Locked out meat workers will launch a five dollar 0900 LOCK OUT number at meetings with striking workers, starting tommorow.
Workers at Talley's six AFFCO freezing works in Moerewa, Horotiu, Rangiuru, Wairoa, Feilding and Whanganui will strike in solidarity with 1,000 indefinetly locked out workers for the plants for two days from 5am Monday until 5am Wednesday.
Workers at the company's two meat procesing plants in Wiri and Napier, which have no locked out workers, will strike in solidarity for two days from 5am Wednesday until 5am Friday.
Locked out AFFCO Moerewa worker, Laurie Nankivell, who has eight children, including one who has also been locked out, says meetings will be held with workers during the strikes (see below) to launch the phone number and discuss a community outreach plan developed at a delegates conference in Taupo last week.
Mr Nankivell says his family and 1,000 other locked out workers urgently need financial support.
"Talley's is trying to starve our whanau, my workmates and our communities that rely on our incomes, into submission," he says. "With a quick five dollar phone call to 0900 LOCK OUT the public can help us put food on the table for our kids and get our community working again."
"Our wormates have been forced to escelate solidarity strikes and lose even more money to support us, just because the company decided to lock us out after only 10 hours of face-to-face negotiations. They still haven't even bothered to respond to our last bargaining position."
Union members will also start an indefinite overtime ban and work ban on training replacement labour for locked out workers from tommorow.
