Young Kiwis to attend Commonwealth Day celebrations
Young Kiwis to attend Commonwealth Day
celebrations
Natalie Jones and Fale Lesa have been selected to represent the New Zealand Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) at Commonwealth Day in London on 12 March 2012.
The CPA Branch called for expressions of interest to attend this event and received a number of high calibre applications. Natalie and Fale were chosen as they have demonstrated strong leadership skills, and an interest in the Commonwealth and parliamentary affairs.
They will join other young people representing countries from around the Commonwealth for a one day programme, with a theme of “Connecting Cultures”. Included in the programme will be discussions on the Commonwealth, the CPA, and their contribution to parliamentary democracy; short debates and presentations on current critical issues in the Commonwealth; and attendance at the Observance at Westminster Abbey at which Her Majesty the Queen will be present as Head of the Commonwealth.
It is hoped that through the participation of young people in the annual Commonwealth Day celebrations that the virtues of both the Commonwealth and parliamentary democracy will be promoted to the young generation.
