'Greening New Zealand's Growth' a starting point

'Greening New Zealand's Growth' a starting point on road to green economy - WWF

WWF-New Zealand is urging the Government to build on the ‘Green Growth’ report released today and develop a genuine low carbon green economy strategy.

Commenting on the 'Greening New Zealand's Growth' report, Peter Hardstaff, Climate Change Programme Manager at WWF-New Zealand said:

"We appreciate the effort that members of the panel made but they were hampered by an overly restrictive terms of reference which did not allow them to explore critical issues on how New Zealand could achieve a green economy. In spite of this handicap, the panel has made some useful recommendations that could kick-start a discussion on what a green economy in New Zealand might look like and how we will know if we are making progress towards it."

"New Zealand has huge opportunities to be part of the global clean tech revolution if the Government takes this report as a starting point and develops a genuine low carbon green economy strategy. The most important test is whether this report will be used to justify business as usual, or whether it will lead to a change of approach and changes in policy."

"Creating a plan to make New Zealand exporters look clean and green and exploit the 100% Pure brand is completely different from creating a plan for the New Zealand economy to be clean and green and make the brand a reality."
