Occupy Auckland Invited to Waitangi

Occupy Auckland has been invited to attend a peace hikoi to Waitangi as guests of the Waitaha nation on February 4-6th 2012

Those who are able to do so, will accompany members of Waitaha to Waitangi so they may attend the hui at Waitangi, where the Te Tiriti O Waitangi was signed on that day 152 years ago by over 500 Maori, with around 40 chiefs among them. The following is the message that Occupy Auckland has received from Waitaha Matriarch, Kereru Pounamu.

“Kia Ora to All Our Whanau of 'Occupy' May the Blessings of 'Waitaha' rest within your souls and may you each know that you are unique, divine beings of light!

I am grateful to have led the 'Waitaha Peace Hikoi' with many of Our Grandmothers of Waitaha, Tangata Whenua and of All Nations for the past three years.

It was with great honour that I invited 'Occupy Auckland' a month ago, and again reminded them recently, to join us in Our 'Waitaha Peace Hikoi' this year on February 6th. The Intent of our Peace March is 'Unity, Peace and Harmony.'

Our Message has been the same for over 6,000 years! All Who Choose to Incept 'Unity, Peace and Harmony' at Waitangi Feb 6, 2012 and send these ripples out to the world are most welcome.

“We are honoured and blessed to be invited as guests to Waitangi,” states an occupier who plans on accepting the invitation. Occupy Auckland is adamant that, contrary to rumours reported in mainstream media outlets there is absolutely no plan in place by Occupy Auckland or any other branch of the Occupy Aotearoa movement to “Occupy Waitangi”. Waitangi is already occupied by he tangata, and has always been.

Occupy Auckland intends to operate completely within the protocols of Tangata Whenua and will attend Waitangi only in the capacity of invited guests. As previously mentioned, the group states they are honoured to participate on this peace hikoi and consider it a huge compliment to the movement from Tangata Whenua that we have been invited to participate alongside them.
