NZ FIRST MP SPARKS CONTROVERSY WITH NEW BOOK
The New Zealand First MP whose comments on the burqa and self defence created headlines last month is going even further
with the release of a book, Uncommon Dissent, into bookstores this week.
List MP Richard Prosser says he wants to provoke a national debate on what vision New Zealanders want for their country.
Prosser, who’s been writing columns for Investigate magazine since 2002, sparked debate just before Christmas when some
of his views on the right to self-defence were revealed in the media.
The new book, UNCOMMON DISSENT: The Evolution Of A Kiwi Nationalist ($35.99 RRP, Howling At The Moon), goes much
further, with a range of hard-hitting views on welfare, state asset sales, what he calls “the Silly Little Girl
Syndrome”, Nanny State and many more politically incorrect subjects.
He’s the first MP to publish a book aimed at the general market for a number of years.
While Prosser accepts his book will probably spark fierce comment in some quarters, and that his words may well be used
against him, he says it’s important for New Zealanders to have some genuine debate on issues that matter to them.
“Richard Prosser’s commentaries over the past ten years have generated a lot of comment in the magazine’s letters
columns,” says publishing company director Ian Wishart. “He’s well aware that there’s a risk in publishing some of these
commentaries, but he’s welcomed Investigate’s decision to release them in book form.”
The book goes onsale in Whitcoulls, The Warehouse, Relay Airport Bookstores, PaperPlus, Take Note, Dymocks and all good
independent bookstores this week.
