Pike River Royal Commission of Inquiry: Counsel for Families

Pike River Royal Commission of Inquiry: Counsel for Families

17 January 2012

The Greymouth newspaper has reported today comments from the Mayor Tony Kokshoorn, and the Receiver of Pike River Coal Limited, John Fisk, regarding important issues of recovery.

Mr Kokshoorn is reported as saying that he is going to Wellington to see the Prime Minister, in this regard. Mr Fisk is reported as saying the recovery process is a two to four year process.

The Families have taken their own professional advice, through Bruce McLean, engineer, and are awaiting his report which will bring together technical, commercial and contingencies associated with possible recovery.

That Report will come to the families, so they may gain a sound understanding of this sensitive issue.

If correctly reported, the article discloses information outside the knowledge of the Families. They will rely on the professional advice they receive, and determine the appropriate course of action, once that is to hand.
