No golfing manual for Prime Minister
“The prime minister has indicated he would prefer to be gifted a golfing manual, PPTA is continuing to send books that provide comment on education,” says junior vice president Doug Clark.
“We’re concerned by the practice of treating kids’ education like a sporting fixture with winners and losers,” said Clark.
“The latest book is an introduction to the work of Charles Darwin, who was probably the world’s greatest scientist. We are sending this because once public education becomes the domain of the temples, churches, mosques and synagogues, the casualty is science teaching. This is one of the reasons USA is rapidly losing its global edge in science and technology,” he said.
“Like Darwin, PPTA believes evidence matters. There is strong global evidence of what works in successful education systems and what doesn’t - frittering away taxpayer money on an experiment with charter schools isn’t one of the features of top education systems.”
In the spirit of the season PPTA continue to help John Key build up a collection of reading by gifting him a book on each of the 12 working days until Christmas.
