The Council of Trade Unions is urging the parties involved in collective bargaining at Ports of Auckland to continue bargaining constructively and seek a mutually agreeable settlement as soon as possible.
Peter Conway, CTU Secretary, said today that there are complex issues in the bargaining but with goodwill they are all capable of being resolved.
In respect of a union official served with a trespass notice today, Peter Conway noted that the employer has asked the CTU to condemn the behaviour of the union official involved.
“What I can say about that at this stage is limited. I can say however that the CTU does not support conduct of the type alleged by the company. But there are now legal issues involved and the union have advised me they will thoroughly investigate all the circumstances to determine whether the allegations are true, whether there were any other facts that contributed and how the management has dealt with the situation including public statements made.”
This incident should not be allowed to interfere with progress being made in the negotiations.
