Close of Campaign Statement
Tamaki Independent candidate Stephen Berry today issued the following statement to voters to close his campaign for
election to Parliament.
“Voters in Tamaki do not have seven options when they walk into the polling booth on Saturday. You have just two. You
can choose between varying degrees of the status quo who all think that they can run your life better than you can.
Alternatively you can vote for the only candidate in Tamaki who says that you own your own life and bloody politicians
should not be sticking their noses into it.”
“Every other candidate offers a future of more deficit spending and overseas borrowing by the Government. They are not
prepared to accept that the current system of Government is bankrupt and unsustainable. For decades politicians of all
political colours have thrown away more of other people’s money on public health, education, state welfare and a myriad
of Government departments. For decades the statistics have only worsened. I am the only candidate saying we need to
completely re-evaluate the role of Government and let individuals run their own lives!”
“Every candidate in Tamaki believes that the solution to alleged poverty is to maintain a minimum wage and maintain a
welfare system. Unemployment figures and welfare dependency worsen yet they all think we need more of the same. I am the
only candidate proposing the end of the minimum wage to reduce unemployment, a $15,000 income tax-free threshold to
allow those on low incomes to keep more of their own money and cut off dates for the issuing of new unemployment and
single parent benefits.”
“Every other candidate advocates forcing taxpayers to fund a failed public service system, whether they use it or not,
making it more difficult to take personal responsibility for their own lives. I am the only candidate proposing a
voluntary income tax system. People should be able to choose whether they contribute to a public system and receive
Government services or whether they choose to take responsibility for their own lives.”
“Every other candidate in Tamaki thinks they can tell you what you may or may not put into your own body. Some will turn
on their own party leaders to keep it this way. I am the only candidate saying that individuals should have complete
sovereignty over their own bodies. I am the only candidate advocating the legalisation and deregulation of all
substances for adults, in conjunction with the privatisation of the health system.”
“I would like to thank my team of volunteers for their help over this campaign. Whatever the result on Saturday, they
can be sure that the issue of individual freedom will be in the minds of many Tamaki voters as a result of their
efforts.”
The only way for Tamaki voters to have an MP who stands for freedom is to give their electorate vote to Stephen Berry
this Saturday.
