Tamaki Makaurau Election Debate –
Live on Maori Television
Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples will face
his political opponents for the Tamaki Makaurau seat in
Maori Television’s last live debate before the election on
Monday, 21 November.
The battle for the Auckland Maori electorate is between Dr Sharples and Labour list MP Shane Jones, with Mana’s Kereama Pene and the Green’s Mikaere Curtis trailing behind.
NATIVE AFFAIRS – KOWHIRI 11, part of Maori Television’s AFTA award winning current affairs series, will broadcast the candidates’ debate live from Maori Television in Newmarket from 8.30pm.
The hour-long programme will include questions about the Maori Party’s coalition with National, crime and justice, unemployment, education and the cost of living.
Questions can be lodged via Native Affair’s Facebook page or using the Twitter hash tag #nativekowhiri on the night. The debate will also be live-streamed on the Maori Television website, www.maoritelevision.com.
Hosted by Julian Wilcox, NATIVE AFFAIRS – KOWHIRI 11 is the only national current affairs programme that has broadcast live from each of the seven Maori electorates.
“We’ve created a forum for candidates to debate the issues and allow voters to question them on their policies and broadcast it live so that Maori voters can make an informed choice on Election Day,” says Maori Television’s general manager of news and current affairs, Te Anga Nathan.
On election night,
NATIVE AFFAIRS – KOWHIRI 11 will bring
coverage of the results in a five-hour special with live
crosses to the Maori electorates.
A studio panel of
commentators including Sandra Lee, Ella Henry, Derek Fox,
Stacey Morrison, Mike King, Ron Mark and Rawiri Paratene
will discuss the results as they come in.
