NoMoreRates.com
The nationwide campaign to replace the present system of council rates with a fairer system which reflects ability to
pay and value for money.
MEDIA RELEASE 10th November 2011
Statement from David Thornton.
Telecom Preventing NoMoreRates Launching New Website.
It should be a relatively straight-forward operation to move the hosting of a website from one Internet Provider to
another.
Unless your current host is Telecom.
In response to concerns expressed by many Auckland ratepayers, and by some local politicians, I have had the NoMoreRates
website upgraded to make it inter-active and to enable supporters to register on-line.
Last Thursday, 3rd November 2011, I contacted Telecom and asked them to arrange to transfer the hosting of the website
to my website designer who has built to new site which was then ready to ‘go live’.
For many hours on Thursday and Friday I played Telecoms Help Line game – being transferred from pillar to post – until I
extracted a promised that they would email me the information needed to transfer the site.
Nothing has happened since - despite more hours on the help line.
The effect of this delay is that NoMoreRates is unable to communicate effectively with ratepayers who have been
desperately looking for a voice to make their views known on the huge rates increases that many are facing next year.
Ratepayers are also looking for help and advice in relation to the recent revaluations in Auckland.
Telecom is directly responsibility for the delay in re-launching NoMoreRates.
