Labour Resorts to Handout Gutter Politics
“First we had Mana promising to dish out $1000 to beneficiaries and low income earners, now Labour resorts to the gutter
politics of buying votes with other people’s money!” This is Tamaki Independent candidate Stephen Berry’s response to
the latest policy announcements released by the Labour party.
Labour has announced that it will extend the paid parental leave regime from fourteen weeks to six months over two terms
of Government. Stephen Berry says, “The productive class of New Zealanders has had enough of being forced by Government
to pay for the lifestyle choices of other people. Just as taxpayers should not be forced to pay the unemployed for
unprotected sex, neither should businesses be forced to pay their employees for it. Such a policy not only violates the
bank accounts of employers but it ensures that discrimination against women in the workplace will only increase.”
Labour is also promising to extend the Working for Families tax credit to those with children who are dependent on a
benefit. “The lolly scramble for those who demand everyone else pays for their children just continues with Labour. I
thought Working for Families was meant to be for those who actually work. Now Labour wants to extend it to those who are
allergic to earning their living. I say that Working for Families should be shut down altogether and people don’t have
children until they can afford them.”
Berry wonders how the policy costs Labour released a few days ago can even be relevant following this latest policy
release. “The previous policy costs did not include the $62.4 million Working for Families giveaway. The previous policy
costs also don’t include all the future handouts Labour is likely to promise in the next three weeks as they get
increasingly desperate to scab the vote of every entitlement junkie in the country. How much will they be planning to
borrow by November 26?”
“Government today is financially bankrupt. We can’t afford to spend any more and the economy will not recover without
immediate tax relief. The only real step forward is big tax cuts, bigger spending cuts and more individual liberty!”
