What have public services ever done for me?

What have public services ever done for me?
The PSA’s comic campaign skit highlights that for many of us the answer to that question is – “Quite a lot actually.”
“Public services are such an intrinsic part of our daily lives that we take them for granted,” says the public sector union’s National Secretary Brenda Pilott.
The PSA’s campaign, Keep NZ Working, is reminding voters of our reliance on public services and what we stand to lose if they’re cut further.
“We often don’t value things until we lose them, but public services are too important to lose.
“Whether it’s taking care of society’s most vulnerable, securing our borders, educating our young people or promoting our exports, public services keep New Zealand working and make it a better place to live,” says Brenda Pilott.
As part of its campaign, the PSA has joined with other unions and community organisations to present ‘Political Speed Dating’ election forums in five centres around the country.
Political Speed Dating is a fun, fast and furious debate on some of the serious issues facing our communities.
Election candidates have just two minutes to answer the hard questions on issues like welfare, public services and inequality and we’ll have some of New Zealand’s funniest people MC-ing, including Michele A’Court, Jeremy Elwood, Darren Ludlow and Ian Harcourt – just to make sure candidates stick to their timeslots.
“We’re encouraging everyone who wants to make their voice heard and their vote count this November to come along and find out what candidates have to say on the issues that matter,” says Brenda Pilott.
