Search Begins for New Zealand’s next UNICEF Youth Ambassadors
Move over Top Models, UNICEF NZ is launching a nationwide hunt for four new Youth Ambassadors. UNICEF NZ is accepting
applications until Friday 25 November from young New Zealanders who want to take action to improve the lives of young
people around the world.
Applicants for the UNICEF Youth Ambassador programme need to be aged between 16-18 years and be passionate about
UNICEF’s global work for children. Each Ambassador will connect with young people and their local community to raise
awareness about important issues like climate change and HIV/AIDS in developing countries.
Ambassadors will work in tandem with UNICEF NZ to create their own action plan, which could include organising local
events, speaking at school assembly or writing blogs.
Pip Bennett, Advocacy Officer at UNICEF NZ, said “The UNICEF NZ Youth Ambassador programme first launched in 2010 with
five Youth Ambassadors who kept busy during the year by running events, writing opinion pieces and blogs, giving talks
and making videos about the issues that affected them the most.
“We are so impressed at the level of passion, commitment and talent that the Youth Ambassadors have shown during this
past year and want to continue to foster the potential of young Kiwis further through this programme.
“If you are someone who is passionate about global issues and wants to practically create change, then please apply to
be a UNICEF NZ Youth Ambassador and let’s make it happen.”

Applicants must be 16-18 years old and will need to submit a short written statement along with two references and a
