Brash Pulls Out of Waitangi Debate
ACT Leader Don Brash has pulled out of a debate on the Treaty of Waitangi scheduled for next weekend on TV3’s “The Nation”.
The debate is to be among minor parties and until last week, Dr Brash had indicated he would be appearing.
As recently as Wednesday morning, Dr Brash’s office asked for and were provided with logistic and editorial details about the debate.
They said they needed that for debate training for Dr Brash that afternoon.
But late that afternoon they sent an email saying he was no longer available.
On “The Nation” on Saturday, ACT’s Epsom candidate John Banks was asked why Dr Brash was suddenly unwilling to appear on the programme to talk about Waitangi.
Mr Banks said that the party should be talking about Maori unemployment in Northland.
The debate will go ahead and “The Nation” will run (as usual) on both Saturday and Sunday after the cancellation of the Sunday show this week because of the Bathurst SuperV8 race.
