Sleepover Workers’ Union Welcomes Minimum Wage Bill
The introduction tonight of the legislation on the ‘Sleepover’ decision will be a historic moment for low paid workers, said the Service and Food Workers Union Ngā Ringa Tota.
SFWU National Secretary John Ryall said the first reading of the legislation would be a victory, which took union members one step further towards achieving fair recognition for their work at last.
“This has been a long, long road, but finally tonight we will see the agreement between unions, the Government and the employer cemented in law,” said John Ryall.
“This is something that has been hard won by workers who contribute to their communities by supporting some of the most vulnerable and they have been undervalued for far too long.
“It is great to see some investment in this sector that so badly needs it.”
