Tukituki candidate announced
Barry Pulford, a grocery night filler from Flaxmere, has been announced as the Tukituki electorate candidate for Democrats for Social Credit. He was selected by delegates attending the Democrats for Social Credit (DSC) Eastern Region's meeting held in Gisborne.
Mr Pulford said the name of the Party explains what it stands for.
"Simply put, 'social credit' means the community's money. It is a system where the money supply of the nation is owned and controlled by that nation through democratic means.
"Credit (money) is currently created by the trading banks as debt to society. Under the DSC's proposed system, credit would be created only by the Reserve Bank and first put into circulation debt free. Some of this could be used to finance infrastructure and thus reduce taxes and local rates.
"The present debt system is the main cause of problems in funding roads, hospitals, schools, and in the difficulties of creating jobs for all those who want to work", said Mr Pulford.
An experienced campaigner, Mr Pulford said that he was looking forward to standing in the Tukituki electorate.
"The global financial crisis has given voters something to think about. I want to let them know that the DSC has monetary reform answers to financial crisis questions" Mr Pulford concluded.
