Federation welcomes
Transmission Gully milestone
The New Zealand
Contractors’ Federation has hailed the latest milestone in
the Transmission Gully project as a very positive step
forward for the Wellington region.
Chief Executive Jeremy Sole said the Minster for Environment’s decision to direct matters lodged for the project to a Board of Inquiry firmed up plans for a construction start in 2015/16.
“Good solid progress is being made on the Transmission Gully project and it’s certainly very welcome news that any concerns, ideas and views on this will be fully debated in a transparent public forum,” he said.
“This is another good example of the Government’s pragmatic and common-sense approach to infrastructure development.
“The Waterview Connection was another, coming to market within nine months, much faster than it would have under the previous system with all parties including residents, the New Zealand Transport Agency, constructors, councilors and designers generally satisfied with the outcomes.”
Mr Sole said that Transmission Gully is crucial to lifting the economic performance not just of the Wellington region but the entire lower North Island.
“News of this progression will also give the New Zealand civil construction industry an indication of when work is likely to start on this major project and allow for advanced planning to be carried out.”
