Pure Advantage joins the global climate action campaign

MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release
Pure Advantage joins the global campaign to mobilise climate change action

Auckland, 15 September 2011 – Pure Advantage - the organisation championing a green growth paradigm shift for New Zealand – is joining former US Vice President, Al Gore, and others in a worldwide 24-hour event to mobilise people from around the globe to help solve climate change.

The campaign kicks off with 24 Hours of Reality, a live streamed global event on September 14-15 at ClimateRealityProject.org. From New Zealand to Cape Verde and Mexico City to Alaska, the event will feature scientists, celebrities, business leaders, concerned citizens and Pure Advantage trustee, Phillip Mills who will also make a presentation. Other aligned New Zealand organisations making presentations include Sustainable Business Network, Oxfam, Sustainable Food, Greenpeace, Generation Zero and WWF.

During the 24 Hours of Reality event, people all around the globe living with the impacts of climate change will present their stories about the impact of climate change and make the clear connection between extreme weather and manmade carbon pollution that’s changing our climate.

Pure Advantage trustee, Phillip Mills, says that New Zealand is not escaping the effects of climate change and supporting events such as this is crucial to raising awareness about the climate crisis and the impacts it is having here and around the world.

“The fact is that we are living with the reality of global warming every day. Extreme weather events are occurring with alarming frequency all over the world – even in this country we are experiencing ferocious storms and bizarre weather patterns.

“Educating and engaging the public about the reality of the climate crisis and helping build the global movement for change cannot happen soon enough. As an organisation, we are acting now and we encourage others to join the movement and support this campaign at a critical time. You can join the debate by signing up at www.pureadvantage.org”

This event is the first step in a larger, multi-faceted campaign to spread the word about the climate crisis and all viewers of the event, online and in person, will be invited to take part in specific activities to help solve the climate crisis.

Pure Advantage is determined to deliver world-leading improvements to our economy, our environmental performance and the living standards of all New Zealanders. The name reflects New Zealand’s pure clean, green competitive advantage on the world stage.

It is our belief that our country can have a better future if we take action now to protect our unique natural environment, grow our high value exports and develop new industries that will thrive in international green growth markets.

New Zealand’s economic and environmental performance is sliding, and the goal of greater wealth for our country and our people is slipping further away. Our exporters cannot afford to be caught in the gap between New Zealand’s clean, green marketing proposition and a different reality.

By working with communities, businesses, Government and iwi, Pure Advantage believes that we can make a difference.

Join us and help turn our natural advantages into greater wealth for all New Zealanders.
