CTU economist to attend TPPA negotiations in Chicago
NZCTU economist and policy director Bill Rosenberg will be in Chicago from 8 September until 14 September to monitor the
round of Transpacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) negotiations taking place there from 6-16 September.
The parties to the TPPA negotiations are New Zealand, the US, Australia, Chile, Peru, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and
Brunei. The agreement is intended to be unprecedentedly broad-ranging, impacting on many numbers of areas of domestic
regulation such as food and safety standards, pharmaceutical prices and public health, as well as overseas investment
rules and investor powers, state owned enterprises, and the stability of the financial system.
In Chicago, Rosenberg will be working with union representatives from most of the other countries and the International
Trade Union Confederation, as well as non-governmental organisations concerned about the nature of the proposed
agreement.
