New Governor-General of New Zealand to Be Sworn in
A Swearing-In Ceremony for Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae, Governor-General designate of New Zealand will be held at Parliament this Wednesday.
The ceremony will begin with a full Maori ceremonial welcome provided by Ngati Tuwharetoa hapu.
A Royal Guard of Honour of Navy, Army and Air Force personnel will be paraded as part of the ceremony
Music will be provided by the New Zealand Army Band, Scots College Pipers and the combined choirs of Wellington College and Wellington Girls’ College.
Members of the public are welcome to view the ceremony on the main lawn or from the area outside the Parliamentary Library building.
As part of the ceremony the NZ Defence Force’s 16 Field Regiment will fire a 21-gun salute from Point Jerningham.
The swearing in ceremony will be followed by a reception at Parliament and a wreath laying ceremony at the National War Memorial at 2.30 pm.
