The flight south and ramp ceremony at the air base followed a private service at Papakura Military Camp in Auckland where the NZSAS is based.
Accompanied by his family and colleagues from the NZSAS and Engineer Regiment his casket was met by senior members of the New Zealand Defence Force.

"CPL Grant is nearing the end of his journey home," says Chief of Defence Force LT GEN Rhys Jones. "He will be with his family and Army colleagues this weekend before a full military funeral is held on Monday when he will be laid to rest. I'm sure the thoughts of all New Zealanders are with the family this evening, and over the coming days."
