Stroke victims are among those benefiting from a collaboration between Industrial Research Limited (IRL) and Taiwan’s
Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), which are developing rehabilitation devices to help patients with brain
injuries recover limb movement.
Grants, awards and internships in Asia
We're now taking applications for a range of grants, awards and internships, so if you've got a yearning to learn more
about Asia, we may be able to help you out.
Current opportunities for:
• Journalism graduates - professional practicum programme in Jakarta
• Journalists - submit your proposals by 16 September for the final round of Asia:NZ media grants in 2011
• Business and science graduates - ITRI internship in Taiwan
• Japanese and engineering, management or tourism graduates - internship at Kyushu Railway Company in Japan
• Young Leaders Network members - several new opportunities for you including study in Jakarta and APEC Voices of the Future conference in Hawaii
Thailand has a new leader, but its issues remain the same - how to boost the economy while keeping peace within a deeply
divided nation. Vaughan Yarwood looks at the challenges facing Thailand's first female prime minister, Yingluck
Shinawatra.
Auckland’s Owairaka District School recently celebrated the opening of its Indian and Zen gardens, which it has set up
to promote a deeper understanding of Asia. The gardens, funded by a grant from Asia:NZ, were also designed to affirm the
place of Asian children and families who belong to the school community.
Ten young leaders in China got the chance to meet and share stories at a gathering in Beijing organised by Asia:NZ.
Besides making internal connections, we also asked the group to create a photo resource about life in China that New
Zealand teachers could use in the classroom.
Regional meetings of the Principals Asia Aware Network in are coming up - Dunedin in September, and Wellington and
Auckland in November - mark your calendars now.
