National at highest level in Party Vote all year

ONE NEWS COLMAR BRUNTON HAS JOHN KEY WITH HIS HIGHEST EVER PEFERRED PM RATING
National at highest level in Party Vote all year

Sunday 21 August, 2011

With fewer than 100 days to go before the election the latest One News Colmar poll shows National with 56% of the party vote – a towering lead over Labour, which has just 30% support.

The poll, which surveyed 1006 eligible voters between August 13th and 17th, also has John Key on 57% in the Preferred Prime Minister rankings, his highest score since he began appearing in the poll in 2006.

Labour has picked up three percentage points but at 30% would only have 37 MPs and its leader Phil Goff is nearly fifty points behind Key as preferred Prime Minister.

One News Political Editor Guyon Espiner says Labour’s gain looks to be at the expense of the Green Party, which dropped four points this poll.

“The Labour-Green share of the vote is virtually unchanged from last month and while Labour is up three points National is up three points too so the gap remains the same,” Espiner said.

“Labour will be relieved its vote hasn’t eroded further after July’s low point. But not even Labour’s most optimistic MPs could claim that being 26 points behind National this close to an election is a good poll result.”

The poll has a margin of error of 3.1%.
