Library & Information Association NZ Recognises Cantabrians

Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa issues a Letter of Recognition to all Cantabrians

5 August 2011

The Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (LIANZA), on behalf of the profession, has issued a Letter of Recognition to colleagues in the Canterbury area who have been dealing with the effects of earthquakes since September 2010.

LIANZA Letters of Recognition are for those who have rendered a significant and special service to the Association, demonstrated continuing service over a period of time to the Association, or made an outstanding contribution to librarianship, libraries or information management in New Zealand.

The Letter of Recognition to Cantabrians acknowledges the devastation of Christchurch and surrounding areas, the severe personal losses experienced by so many and the uncertainty and the challenges faced in going about daily life.

Library and information professionals have worked tirelessly to reopen libraries or to find alternative places and innovative ways for their customers to access library services.

“The earthquakes have resulted in concerns for valuable collections, particularly of a historic or specialist nature, that are not accessible and are possibly damaged or deteriorating” says LIANZA President Jane Hill.

“The Association has seen much evidence of library staff putting their customers’ needs ahead of their own which has prompted LIANZA to award this Letter of Recognition.”

LIANZA recognises the resilience, courage and tenacity of library and information professionals throughout these unprecedented times.
