Thailand: investigation into tourist deaths - MFAT

Thailand: investigation into tourist deaths

* The New Zealand Government continues to actively encourage the Thai authorities to progress the investigation into Sarah Carter's tragic death. The New Zealand Embassy, as well as NZ medical experts, are in close and regular contact with their counterparts in Thailand.

* The Thai authorities have convened a panel of experts to undertake an "internal review" of all the Chiang Mai cases. The experts have been principally drawn from Bangkok and thus have had no previous connection or involvement with the cases.

* The panel is reviewing all the evidence with the intention of providing conclusions and determinations on the various Chiang Mai cases.

* The New Zealand Embassy in Bangkok continues to impress upon the Thai authorities the need for progress on the cause of Sarah's death and is liaising with Thai authorities on the activities of this panel.

Note: Information released by the Thai authorities regarding the investigation is available on this website www.ddc.moph.go.th
