New Party to contest 2011 election

New Party to contest 2011 election

This morning Auckland businessman and super city mayoral candidate Mr Colin Craig announced he will be leading a new political party known as The Conservative Party of New Zealand in the 2011 general election. Mr Craig emphasised the parties focus on long term thinking saying that “Policies generally emphasise long term thinking, fiscal responsibility and the valuing of voters, people, families and communities.”

Craig is promising a well-resourced and informative campaign that will challenge the status quo expecting to attract voters away from both major parties.

The party is receiving memberships from today with the initial goal of gaining 500 members to enable formal registration.

There has recently been speculation that Mr Craig would contest the Epsom electorate but when questioned Craig advised he had not yet determined in which electorate he would stand. He however did not rule out standing in Epsom and confirmed he continues to carry out independent polling that includes that electorate.
