Media statement for immediate release
In the wake of two devastating attacks on the people of Norway, Young Labour New Zealand is sending its condolences and thoughts to the Norwegian people.
"The bombing in Oslo and the attack on our comrades from our sister organisation, Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking (AUF), has shocked and horrified us" said Young Labour President Ella Hardy.
"We stand in solidarity with our friends from AUF and our thoughts are with them in this grave hour. Our beliefs for a better world bond us together and these are ideals that will not be defeated by fear or terror" Hardy added.
"The news of this horrible act is truly devastating and strikes at the very heart of the peaceful, democracy for which Norway is well regarded. In the words of Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, “We stand for an open society, and open democracy in Norway, and violence like this can’t scare us" said Young Labour International Secretary Rory McCourt.
I dag er vi alle norske, today we are all Norwegians.
