Appointment of Chief Executive and Comptroller of Customs
The State Services Commissioner, Iain Rennie, today announced the appointment of Carolyn Tremain to the position of Chief Executive and Comptroller of Customs, New Zealand Customs Service.
Ms Tremain is currently Deputy Commissioner Service Delivery in the Inland Revenue Department, a position she has held since August 2007.
"Carolyn Tremain has extensive experience successfully leading in large, complex service delivery organisations. She has successfully led substantial change management programmes and has delivered operational results and cost savings in these organisations.
"Ms Tremain has the leadership, change management, relationship management, influencing skills and personal qualities to successfully lead the border sector and the New Zealand Customs Service through the next stages of its development," Iain Rennie said.
In her current role, Ms Tremain is responsible for the frontline service delivery functions of the Department which include audit and investigations, contact centres, customer operations, customer and product innovation, litigation management and the integration of new government programmes.
Ms Tremain has held senior management roles in the public and private sectors for nearly eighteen years. She has been a Deputy Commissioner in the Inland Revenue Department since November 2004 when she was appointed Deputy Commissioner People, Capabilities and Governance.
Prior to joining the department, she worked for the Air New Zealand Group from May 1990 to 2003. From January 1998 to July 2003 Ms Tremain was head of the Human Resources and Organisational Change function for the Air New Zealand Group.
Ms Tremain has a Bachelor of Arts from Victoria University, Wellington.
Ms Tremain has been appointed for a five year term and will take up the position on 19 September 2011.
