A lively
mobile pay equity protest has shifted from outside an EMA
meeting in Henderson Auckland to the EMA headquarters in
Khyber Pass. Protesters, carrying placards saying:
“Pay Equity: It’s about justice” and Pay Equity:
It’s about fairness” have gathered to drive home to EMA
a positive statement about equity for women workers.
Protest spokeswoman, Jill Ovens of the Service and Food Workers Union Nga Ringa Tota said: “We’re here to help EMA to understand what pay equity is all about. For our members it’s about women-dominated occupations such as caregiving and cleaning where the pay is rock bottom simply because the work is overwhelmingly carried out by women.”
