Kronic could be a good thing

*Kronic could be a good thing*

June 21, 2011 Press release: Your NZ

The synthetic cannabinoid Kronic could turn out to be a good thing. People who use it say it's awful, hospitals see regularly that it's effects can be awful, and retailers are finding it more trouble than it's worth -- Kronic: Pressure on retailers (ODT 21/06/11) -- so the drug itself doesn't sound like a good thing.

Kronic could turn out to be a good thing if it draws attention to the ineffectiveness of cannabis laws and the mess of effects of those laws, and if it forces us to review how we deal with cannabis.

I've never been a cannabis user, but many people have used it and do use it regularly. There may be questions about the adverse affects of overuse, and particularly on young users. We have that problem now anyway. We have substantial problems with crime associated with the illegal supply and use of cannabis.

I don't know what we should do to address it. I think this is an issue that should be debated in the community, and decided democratically.

If I'm elected to Dunedin North I will initiate an electorate debate on the cannabis laws, and I will run an electorate poll to determine the position the Dunedin North should represent on cannabis.

This is how Your NZ democracy will work.
