Abortion ruling at odds with reality
New Zealand Christian Network says the latest Court of Appeal decision that unborn children do not have a right to life defies common sense and is at odds with reality.
The decision upheld a previous High Court ruling on a case brought by Right to Life that the right to life does not apply to unborn babies.
New Zealand Christian Network National Director Glyn Carpenter said the ruling goes against human experience.
“Every mother knows that the baby growing within her is a real person, and that the baby is born with an already developed personality.
“Babies are frequently born many weeks premature and are given every assistance to survive, yet unborn babies are considered non-persons, that is without the right to life, until they are physically outside of the mother.
“In the face of this, how can the courts say the developing child does not have the right to life?”
New Zealand Christian Network is a broad-spectrum network of churches and Christian leaders, with a Board of Reference that includes leaders from all the main denominations. It seeks to present a biblically orthodox position on issues, reflecting the views of the majority of Christians in New Zealand.
